Big News!

I still can’t believe it, but next month, I’m going to Tampere, Finland. A couple other students from school, and my professor are going. Pretty amazing! Last semester our Documentary photo class collaborated with students at TAMK in Finland. It was pretty cool, and our professor mentioned that there was a possibility of exhibiting the work in Finland. Well, it’s happening. The work will be at the International Art Fair in Tampere, Finland. We’ll be in Tampere April 14-21.

(Below you’ll see a couple of my favourite diptychs from the body of work.)

I don’t really know that much about Finland. I’ve got to do some research. Last semester we spoke to the Finnish students on SKYPE, so it’ll be great to meet them. And we even had one student in my class at OCAD who was on exchange from Finland, so I’ll get to see her again too. Hopefully the Finnish students can help us figure out what to see while we’re there!

I’ve been trying to browse around on Google Street View to check out Tampere. Funny how Google Street View shots always seem to be sunny, hey?

My friend Nicole (who just so happens to be pictured above) recently did a beautiful photo series using Google Street View. You should click here and go check it out. She updates her blog, Portuguese Cheese, pretty often so take a look!

In Ottawa, they did most of Google Street View in April while things still looked sad and dirty from winter, the trees don’t have leaves yet, etc. Makes everything look ugly!

Of course, if you take a “step” forward, they obviously did some a bit later where your theory holds! 🙂
