My trip to Tampere, Finland
In April, I went on a trip to Tampere, Finland with two fellow OCAD students, Joanna and Pat, with our professor Peter Sramek. We traveled to Finland to take part in an exhibition of work created by OCAD and TAMK students. A Finnish student named Liisa (check out her website, her knitted work is amazing!) from TAMK kindly opened her home to Joanna and I. Staying with another student really enabled us to learn about each others cultures. The Finnish students and professors welcomed us into their homes, took us to bars, art galleries, and much more.
Our collaboration with TAMK students was a part of this gallery exhibition at the Tampere Art Factory festival. In addition to our collaboration, there was also some fantastic work by Korean students, and further work from the students in Finland.
Even though I really didn’t take that many photos on the trip, I have a few images to share. Check them out below!
I’m not usually much of a landscape photographer, but it seems like that’s what I captured on the trip. Finland is a beautiful country. Up in the woods on the hillside, looking over the lake, I was really reminded of Vancouver Island in BC.
One of the professors, Juha, had us over to his home for dinner. He had the most beautiful dogs! I was ecstatic just to hang out with them. Pat snapped some photos on my camera while I hung out with the three dogs.
It really was a great experience. OCAD is going to do another collaborative course next year, and I am looking forward to being a part of it. Next year we will be collaborating with Korean, and Finnish students.
