Johanna’s new website was a true collaboration between her, Marissa, Julian, and me. Marissa drafted the design and provided art direction for Johanna to create custom illustrations for the new website. The first section on the home page features a beautifully drawn and coloured illustration by Johanna. Julian animated the Welcome to the Inky World of Johanna Basford text. There are many more gorgeous hand-drawn illustrations throughout the website.

Custom Home Page Illustration
Johanna illustrated and coloured custom artwork for the home page header section. This video was shared on her Instagram to promote the new website.

Colouring Gallery
The Colouring Gallery is an important marketing tool for Johanna’s colouring books. The gallery allows users to upload their coloured pages from her books. The website has over 40,000 users with 76,000 uploads dating back to 2016.
I carefully migrated all user data from Johanna’s original website to her new one. We didn’t want any colouring uploads to be lost in the transition.
Web Animation with GSAP
Julian carefully animated Johanna’s custom illustrations according to Marissa’s art direction using the GSAP JavaScript library. He added movement to the scissors on the Tutorials & Downloads page, bouncing hot air balloons on the Colouring Gallery page, subtle movement to the bugs on the About page, flying butterflies in the website footer, and more.
100% Mobile-Friendly
The website was designed and developed for a flawless mobile experience. The mobile menu includes a search form and an illustration from one of Johanna’s books.
Every page of the website was tested on a variety of devices including Mac, iPhone, PC, and Android. The content is easy to navigate on all devices. Johanna drew beautiful branch and floral dividers for the website. Marissa created mobile versions of every divider image.

- The new website features an email opt-in popup and an email opt-in form in the footer of every page.
- 58,642 Resource PageViews
- We launched a new Resources section on the website. It makes it easy to find Johanna’s tutorial videos, courses, and colouring downloads. It quickly became the most viewed section of the website.
- 315 Colourings Uploaded
- Johanna’s users love uploading their creations and participating in colouring contests on the website.
- 120 New Colouring Gallery Users
- New users are joining the colouring gallery everyday. The website also features a checkbox to opt in to the Mailchimp list when they sign up for a user account.
